After nearly three decades together, actress Lori Loughlin and fashion designer Mossimo Giannulli have decided to part ways. The couple, who share two daughters — Olivia Jade, 26, and Isabella Rose, 27 — are “living apart and taking a break from their marriage,” according to Loughlin’s representative Elizabeth Much. “There are no legal proceedings at this time,” she told People.
The pair, who married in 1997, have faced both fame and hardship in their nearly 28-year marriage. Their relationship was thrust into the spotlight in 2019 during the infamous college admissions scandal, where they were accused of paying $500,000 to get their daughters into the University of Southern California as fake rowing recruits. Both Loughlin and Giannulli pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges in May 2020.
Loughlin served two months in federal prison, completing her sentence in December 2020, while Giannulli served five months, finishing in April 2021. Reflecting on that difficult chapter, Loughlin told First for Women magazine in April 2024 that she’s learned the importance of forgiveness and perseverance.
“I try to be a forgiving person. I’m not one to hold onto stuff. Stuff happens to everyone,” she said. “We’ve all been in positions to ask for forgiveness, but to ask for it, you have to learn and know how to give forgiveness, too.”
She added, “No one is perfect; we all make mistakes. So I was always told to let stuff go. And I think for your own health, you have to let things go because you can’t hang on to negativity. Life’s too short.”
After completing her sentence, Loughlin gradually returned to acting. She reprised her role as Abigail Stanton in “When Hope Calls: A Country Christmas” and later starred in “Fall Into Winter and A Christmas Blessing” on Great American Family. More recently, she appeared on “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” playing a tongue-in-cheek version of herself, and had guest roles on “Blue Bloods” and “On Call.”
While the couple’s separation may come as a surprise to fans, signs had been building for months. In February, they listed their 11,800-square-foot Hidden Hills mansion for $16.5 million, a home they’d purchased in 2020. And though Loughlin has been seen spending time with actor James Tupper — her co-star from Fall Into Winter — her representative clarified, “Lori and James have worked together and are old friends.”
Giannulli, meanwhile, was recently spotted shopping in Beverly Hills with another woman. Still, according to Loughlin’s rep, there’s no rush toward divorce, and reconciliation isn’t completely off the table.
Through it all, Loughlin says her focus remains on moving forward and staying grounded. “As an actress, I hear ‘no’ a lot, so I just have to be myself and persevere and try not to let in negativity,” she shared. “Everyone has good times and bad times. That’s life. You just have to pick yourself up. Nobody said life was going to be a breeze. There’s beauty in life, but there’s also hardship in life.”
After years marked by both success and struggle, Loughlin and Giannulli now face a new beginning—one that may offer space for reflection, renewal, and perhaps, forgiveness.
